The Perils Local Beekeepers Face & Apiary Conservation in Balkans

DTCare worked alongside the University of Sarajevo to host an activity workshop focused on improving beekeeping, biosecurity, and nutritional aspects of bee-products. Our main goals with the workshop are to outline current perils local and international beekeepers are facing from the effects of climate change, pollution, habitat loss, natural resource exploitation, pest infestation, disease, and ignorance and the interdisciplinary methods to combat these challenges.

Secondary to addressing climate change’s negative impact on bee health and survival, DTCare aims to familiarize agriculture, veterinary science, and nutritional science students about the essentiality and benefits of the bee and bee-products and why it is vital to combine knowledge and proven approaches to save the bees. The workshop featured presentations from experts, experienced apiarists, and innovators from Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the United States.
