Transforming Lives in Lebanon: How DTCare is Building Community for Youth Facing Adversity

Ensuring a strong sense of community is crucial for the well-being of children and youth facing adversity. In times of crisis, a supportive community can be a lifeline, providing a sense of belonging, security, and optimism. In Lebanon, where an array of challenges such as loss, poverty, food insecurity, and conflict persist due to war and economic struggles, community-building is more critical than ever.

At DTCare, we understand the profound impact of building community and are dedicated to uplifting and empowering the youth of Lebanon. We have successfully organized and hosted over ten meaningful events through strategic partnerships with Lebanese NGOs, promoting solidarity, spreading joy, and providing essential support.

Beach Cleanup with the Firefighters and Scout Volunteers

In collaboration with the local fire department and with the dedicated support of 25 scouts, DTCare orchestrated a beach cleanup at Damour. This event was more than just a cleanup-it was a platform for learning about environmental issues and participating in interactive activities guided by experienced firefighters.

Through informative demonstrations by the firefighters, participants learned crucial fire safety techniques, including proper fire extinguishing methods. The scouts were also actively involved in rescue simulations, which were both educational and entertaining. The day was further enhanced by a delicious spread of food provided by DTCare for the scouts.

The enthusiasm and dedication shown by all participants was truly inspiring. The event was packed with meaningful activities that underscored the importance of environmental stewardship. Events like these not only contribute to the preservation of the natural environment but also foster a strong sense of community and responsibility among participants.

DTCare and Beit el Diyafeh's Successful Event for the Elderly Community

DTCare successfully collaborated with Beit el Diyafeh to support the elderly community. The event aimed to bring joy and help the elderly individuals and families in the community. Participants enjoyed various engaging activities that fostered connections and created lasting memories. From card to board game sessions, laughter filled the air as everyone bonded and shared happy moments.

A highlight of the day was preparing a delicious lunch in the Beit el Diyafeh kitchens. The elderly community's appreciation reaffirmed the importance of community engagement and compassion. Through the exchange of stories and jokes, it was evident that moments like these hold immense value, reminding us of the power of human connection and the tremendous satisfaction of giving back to those in need.

The event was a beautiful testament to the positive impact we can make when joining as a community. DTCare is grateful to Beit el Diyafeh for their partnership and looks forward to future opportunities to spread to support those in need.

DTCare and Beit El Diyafeh Join Forces to Bring Easter Joy and Fight Hunger in Lebanon

Hunger remains a significant issue in Lebanon, with an estimated 46% of Lebanese households facing food insecurity and 88% of Syrian refugees living in extreme poverty. According to the World Food Programme, the economic crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, devastating explosion in Beirut, and now the war in Ukraine have all contributed to the worsening food insecurity crisis in the country. DTCare's partnership with Beit El Diyafeh is just one small step towards addressing this pressing issue and uplifting struggling families in Lebanon.

In the spirit of Easter, DTCare is proud to continue our annual Easter tradition and support Beit El Diyafeh's mission to aid Lebanese families in need. DTCare donated 900 eggs to help and share the joy of the season with families facing financial difficulties. With this donation, DTCare seeks to foster a culture of empathy and giving back while giving families experiencing hardship the chance to enjoy a traditional Easter celebration. We believe that small gestures can make a big difference, and DTCare's partnership with Beit El Diyafeh allows us to impact the lives of those in need directly.

Bringing Holiday Cheer: Reflecting on DTCare's December Initiatives in Lebanon

December was dedicated to spreading joy and making a meaningful impact in the communities DTCare serves. Our team organized three festive events, each filled with laughter, unity, and the season's true spirit.

Christmas with Orphanend Children: A Day of Smiles and Memories

The first event brought joy to 15 orphaned children as they enjoyed delicious treats, festive games, and touching carols. The highlight of the day was seeing the joy in their eyes as they received carefully chosen gifts. This event showcased the power of kindness and the lasting memories it can create for those in need.

Roumieh's Christmas Celebration: A Beacon of Community and Hope

In partnership with local churches and generous donors, DTCare organized a magical event in Roumieh, bringing the spirit of Christmas to life. Despite the challenges faced by Lebanon, 25 children sang their hearts out while the community came together to celebrate. Thoughtful gifts brought smiles and hope to the faces of children and families, highlighting the positive impact we can make when we unite as a community.

The appearance of Santa Claus with gifts for each child added a touch of magic, creating unforgettable memories. This collaborative effort showcased the power of teamwork in making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Bringing Hope to Lebanon During the 2023 Festive Season

In November, DTCare Lebanon donated food supplies and essential hygiene products to Ictus, an NGO that helps those in need. This charitable effort supported 200 individuals in the Immaculate Heart of Mary community. Despite the ongoing pandemic, DTCare continues to spread joy and hope as the holiday season approaches. The organization has carefully planned three events to uplift families and children. DTCare's commitment to fostering goodwill and creating positive moments is a testament to its mission. This initiative paves the way for a brighter future and reinforces our collective responsibility to support those in need.

DTCare and Generation of Hope Team Up to Promote Gender Equality and Apple Cultivation in Akkar

DTCare, in collaboration with the Generation of Hope NGO, initiated the Apple Program in Akkar on September 21st, 2023. This comprehensive initiative is designed not only to assist local farmers in optimizing their land management practices but also to emphasize the pivotal role of women in agriculture. In a region that struggles with recurrent challenges in apple cultivation, where farmers often bear significant financial burdens due to crop losses and reduced market demand, this program takes a holistic approach. By actively involving women in apple picking and various agricultural tasks, it recognizes their indispensable contribution to the sector's success. DTCare is committed to enhancing agricultural outcomes and also promoting gender equality and inclusivity, understanding that empowering women in agriculture is key to fostering sustainable change in the lives of these farmers.

DTCare Empowers the Akkar Community and Cultivates Prosperity Through Apple Farming

DTCare empowers the Akkar community and cultivates prosperity through our apple farming program. DTCare's collaboration with Generation of Hope apple project in Akkar is making significant progress. So far, we assisted nine farmers in the region in boosting their income through local market sales, cultivated a sense of unity among them, and introduced new farming methods. Together with Generation of Hope, DTCare ensures a more sustainable and productive approach for local apple farms in Akkar, Lebanon.

Lifting Spirits Over the 2023 Easter Season

The World Food Programme reports that an estimated 37 percent of Lebanon's population faced acute food insecurity in December 2022. Easter time is challenging for countless Lebanese families due to the ongoing national financial crisis, and a festive meal is a luxury many cannot afford. Following tradition, DTCare provides food aid to families facing severe hardship. DTCare proudly works alongside fellow nonprofit Beit el Diyafeh and the Deir Rahme elderly care center and facility in the Jounieh and Ain Saadeh regions to ensure vulnerable communities receive a good meal and share in the Easter time festivities. With their help, DTCare distributed over 1,000 eggs, 90 juices, and egg cakes, providing food to more than 350 people over Easter. DTCare stays committed to aiding Lebanese communities and addressing severe food insecurity, particularly among children, persons with disabilities, and seniors.

An Adventurous Weekend with Lebanese Youth

During DTCare US president Marco Gruelle's visit to Lebanon in March of 2023, we had the privilege of spending time with 70 youths whose fathers died in service of their country. We teamed up with the Lebanese military to stand in solidarity with the youths who have lost loved ones to conflict in Lebanon by surprising them with an adventure-filled weekend of hiking, site-seeing, snacks, and a good meal. With the help of the Lebanese military, we had the opportunity to meet such an inspiring and resilient group of young people.

2022 Festive Holiday Event

To end 2022 on a happy note, DTCare Lebanon partnered with Beit Al Diafeh to celebrate the festive season with a fun-filled event for the whole family. 50 children and their families enjoyed the day with Santa Clause taking pictures, playing games, dancing, and eating a delicious meal. DTCare sponsored and distributed gifts for every child to spread joy and leave the children with a warm memory of the holidays.

2022 Easter Holiday Event

We believe that events bring people together, and unity and community are essential during times of suffering and crisis. DTCare makes it our mission to celebrate the little things in life, despite all the challenges the people of Lebanon currently face to spread joy, ignite hope, and lift spirits. There are several commonly celebrated holidays in Lebanon and Easter is one such occasion. To stay true to the spirit of the holiday, DTCare Lebanon donated 750 eggs to a local NGO dedicated to distributing food aid to families in need.

Athletic Sponsorship

Athletes in Lebanon are finding a hard time staying motivated and pursuing their athletic activities. DTCare believes that sports help build community and improves one’s quality of life. Athletic sponsorship allows athletes to focus more on the training and competing aspects of their sport and reduces the stress and time spent attempting to find sponsors. In 2021, DTCare Lebanon sponsored Bechara Azar, a billiards athlete, who finished in second place in a Billiards Championship.
