DTCare Unifies Ethnically Diverse Girls and Young Women Through Sports at 2nd Annual MOVEMENT Volleyball Summer Camp

DTCare held our 2nd Annual MOVEMENT Volleyball Summer Camp on the picturesque Mt. Vlasic in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH) from 13–15 June, bringing together girls and young women aged between 11 and 16 for a weekend of empowerment, teamwork, and positive growth. The goal was to inspire and support young individuals in their sports, educational, and career aspirations.

With the support of various sponsors and partners, including a generous grant from the Sarajevo Diplomatic Winter Bazaar, the camp offered various activities to three volleyball teams, such as volleyball practice and training, educational workshops, and mentoring sessions led by esteemed U.S. and BH volleyball coaches, educators, and successful women leaders.

About the 2024 MOVEMENT Volleyball Camp

DTCare Sarajevo hosted the highly anticipated 2nd Annual MOVEMENT Sports and Mentorship Camp from June 13 to 15. Against the stunning backdrop of Mt. Vlasic, 2024's camp united young girls and women aged 11 to 16 for a transformative weekend of teamwork, empowerment, and self-discovery. Guests had the unique opportunity to participate in various exhilarating activities, including mountain volleyball, educational workshops, and mentorship sessions led by esteemed coaches from the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina. These inspiring individuals also included accomplished women leaders dedicated to guiding and motivating participants in their athletic, academic, and career goals. Thanks to the generous support of the Sarajevo Diplomatic Winter Bazaar, the American Chamber of Commerce, Oaza Water, and Olympia (Coca-Cola), Telemach Foundation, and the Red Cross of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the camp was an overwhelming success. Honorable guests, including board members of the Sarajevo Diplomatic Winter Bazaar and the esteemed Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, showed their united support for the camp's growth and expansion. Throughout the event, attendees were treated to a range of activities, from exhilarating volleyball drills and informative career workshops to essential first-aid training and safety sessions. Evenings were filled with delicious food and entertainment, such as singing, dancing, and stargazing, leaving lasting memories for all in attendance. On the final day, campers were delighted with a panoramic ski-lift ride, providing breathtaking views of Mt. Vlasic and a fitting end to a weekend of personal and communal growth. Event Goals

The event builds on young women's leadership potential using the popular sport of volleyball while fostering dialogue on team strength through diversity, team-building exercises, empowerment, and mentorship. DTCare intends to achieve and reinforce the following goals with the annual event:

  1. Mastering athletic skills, performance, and stamina,

  2. Positive leadership and self-confidence skills,

  3. Breaking the stigma of "others",

  4. Communication/intercommunication skills,

  5. Identification of key stumbling blocks to integration,

  6. Increase in teamwork and interdependence,

  7. Create a mindset of helping others.

Timeline and Activities

  • The opening day included a welcome ceremony with a free DTCare T-shirt giveaway and a delicious meal.

  • The second day included practical volleyball drills and skills organized by Camron Deiss from DTCare, career workshops held by the Telemach Foundation, first aid workshops, and safety and security workshops. The busy day concluded with a wrap-up party featuring singing, dancing, table tennis, late-night stargazing, and an astronomy tour.

  • Day 3 resumed with additional volleyball and skills development sessions and concluded with a ski-lift panoramic ride for the camp participants to appreciate the beauty of Mt. Vlasic.
